About Me and PARADISE POINT Bowls Club
I joined Paradise Point Bowls Club in June 2007 and have enjoyed playing Pennant 2007 & 2008 & 2010, Premier League 2007 - 2009 and Super Challenge 2010 - 2011 here.
With 3 Top Class Greens (1 Indoor) It is a fantastic facility. I love Bowling on the Indoor carpet. It has made me a far better bowler as weight control is very Important and I find it fine tunes my game before an important game.
I have always been treated fairly by Selectors. I have made many friends and play Thursday mornings in "The Best MENS PAIRS on the Coast"
I Skipped The Open Triples here in 2008 with Neil Anstey and Bob Brown when We Won and we were Runners Up in 2009.
I will remain a member of this Club although in the 2009 Pennant Season I played Pennant at Mermaid Beach as I had a better opportunity of playing Pennant in a Position I felt I was suited. That experience Skipping Division 1 for 4 games and Playing 3rd to Robbie Allen against Top Bowlers has made me a better all round player.
I played Super Challenge here 2010 and we made the Gold Final. I was Lead for Albert Klaverstyn for the Qualifying stages but being an attacking player I found it difficult to be as Consistant and he deserved a better Lead for the finals. I played 3rd to Ray Hanson where we were unlucky not to Win the Final, going down by 1 shot overall.
I enjoyed Pennant 2010 We came 3rd in Division 1 which was a good effort as no one gave us a chance of winning a game. I have also Joined Cabarita Beach Bowls Club as at November 2010 and played Pennant 2011 in the off season.
December 2010.... Won 2011 Club Championship Fours with Ray Trewern, Myself, Sam Granata and Grant Osborne.
February 2011.... How things change. When I moved from Broadbeach in 2007 I was warned by some current and past members that All Bowls Clubs were alike and this one was no different. I have enjoyed my time at Paradise Point, I enjoy the facilities, I enjoy the friendship of the wonderful people and Bowlers here. I just do not like the way that the club does not have any ambition. The Greens up until this year have been The best on the Coast. This year there have been problems with the weather and the greens are struggling to find pace on the 1 green thats in and the other one will have been out 4 months or more and will struggle once back. The Green Staff are working very hard to get them right and hope they do.
I have some how fallen out of favour with Selectors and cannot even make the Gold side in Super Challenge. I play bowls almost everyday of the year. My form has been excellent for months and I would say I am as good as any bowler currently at Paradise Point. We have a good squad of players and I know the Selectors have been doing their best to get it right. I started the 1st week in the Gold Division playing 3rd to Ray Hanson in the fours while Barry Alderdice was away. I never had a good game and I was only a fill in. None of us had a good game at Tweed. I will admit that I find Ray hard to play with. I just do not feel comfortable playing for him. Might have been different if I had played pairs with him and got use to the way he plays. He is a good bowler and probably should be where he is, I have no complaint about that.
I ended up playing pairs in the Bronze with Ken Wilson and had some good game and we had some good win. Kens great to play with but somehow players like Ken never get a look in the top division and they are probably more keen and have just as much ability as the sold called "Top Bowlers". I think Unfortunatly there are players currently playing in the Top side who play very limited bowls, players who are not really interested if they are there or not. People who cause disruptions and have too much to say and this is one of the reasons that Gold will fail this season. It has already been suggested to me that I am better off in Bronze as Gold are out of it. Thats not the Point. I want to play Top level Bowls against the best and it is a shame that I have to find another club to do so. As long as Paradise Point have this mentality I cannot see any Top Bowlers joining here or better still staying here. I know there are players at the club who do not want to be Involved and thats the way it will stay. This year we are being paid Per Win Gold and Bronze. We should not be getting paid at all. Play for THE CLUB, Your Club.
Anyway.... Thats my bitch for the moment. I think the people in charge of this club should visit Cabarita Sports Club where I am now a member and see the Success of that club and the atmosphere between players.
9th June 2011. Submitted my resignation as from 30th June 2011. Moving to McKenzie Park Bowls Club to play Pennant.
December 2013. I Rejoined the Club and looked forward to the Super Challenge Season 2014 but was overlooked and kept constant reserve for Silver Division after being told that a rotation of the 14 man squad would take place. I was never confront and told why by any selectors at all. I am Very Disolusioned and was suspended for 3 months on 20th March 2014 (Was rescinded on 23rd March 2014) after a comment I made on my Daily Diary of this site. Have many good friends at the club and in high places that were not impressed but seeing as someone made a complaint, they had to issue me with something. I have done a lot for the club and will be missed on numerous fronts on bowls publicity for the club and money wise. Well, Its not my loss.
