Bob Barry and I had 2 good games on a stinking hot day here at Cabarita Beach. 1st game against Wayne Blackburn (Kingscliffe) and Rick Maunders (Cabarita). We went down 11-14 in a very good game and although holding numerous shots, 2 drives from Rick with his Orange XTLs had big changes in scoreline. we Played fairly well but never got the result. 2nd game against John Hunter and Mick Morgan. Bob and I played well and won 20-9 although I was not impressed with myself when I dropped a 6 on the 11th end. Mick had a lot to do as John was a little wayward. Was a good game on a average paced green.

Bernie Rose (Mermaid Beach) and myself together again... We played against Maureen Butler and Kevin Hoey. Bernie played very well but I found the green so slow after the last 2 days at Pottsville and Cabarita and I never bowled well at all. We lost 14-24 but Maureen and Kevin played very well all day. Getting to hate slower greens. The rain caused this as the greens are true and running well normally.
Barry, Ian Crabb, Myself and Abdul Latif played today in the Semi Final of the Club Fours
We played Derek Hopps team and had a good hard game but we just played a little too well and won 24-11 after 17 ends when they pulled the pin. We are in the final.. To Be Arranged.... Nice greens and Lovely weather for it... Charles Klaverstyn, Myself and Glen Searle and Abdul Latif are playing so will see how we go.
1st round game against Mike Morgan, ??, Rick and Derek Hopps team from Cabarita Beach. Our team all played well and seemed in control and had a 9-1 lead and then 13-5 but somehow the opposition fought their way back with some good bowls and after 18 ends we were 18-18. We came again and a bit of luck and some good bowls saw us win the last 3 ends for a 24-18 win. Good game on tricky quick green. 2nd round we played against Pauls Ocean Shores team. Nothing went for us for the first 14 ends and we were down 5-20 and almost gone. We picked up a 7, 2, 1 and 5 to be 20-20 after 18. Played well but Paul (Ocean Shores Skip was brilliant in the last 3 ends). We were 22-20 19th end, 22-21 20th end and holding 3 shots to win game on last end. 2 bowls directly behind kitty, 1 touching against our bowl, 1 bowl 2 ft in front 2" off centre and somehow with Pauls last bowl he drove and killed the end. Last end again and we were holding 3 shots before Paul trailed the Jack for 4 and Latif went through an impossible hole with his 2nd last bowl and fell 1ft short with his last. We lost gallantly 22-25. Great effort guys. Reg Germon, Merv Austin, Myself and Ray Hanson played in the Fours trial on the Newly renovated top Green. It was interesting as most of the players were not used to the slow greens and rain Friday evening did not help. A rather windy day too..
We won 19-12 over the 18 ends we played. Very tricky conditions and I never played very well at all. Reg played great. Merv played some good bowls and so did Ray although the wind and slow green caught us short numerous times. As far as trials go I suppose it was worth while. Will be interesting to see how we go in our 1st game away to Tweed Heads next week. We MUST win 1st up. Lets hope the select Phil Capon and I played 2 good games today. 1st game against Steve Melton and Neil Forte. We played without much luck but in the end were beaten by a wonderful bowl from Steve that was a match winner on the 2nd last end. We had played well although down 3-9 but back at 9-9 on the 10th and 2nd last end we were holding 3 shots before Steve drew and trailed for 2. we chased on the last end but lost 9-13 over 11 ends. 2nd game against Brian Crook and bobby Brown was a good quality game that ended in a 14-14 draw over 14 ends. greens were slow but true.
The Top green now back at Paradise Point (1 outside one still out for a few more weeks). Today playing Lead for Greg Hughes for the 1st time so should be good.
The top green was running about 12 seconds and although slow was very true. We played Alan Brough and Sam Granata again and had the better of the game with a good 19-16 win. We certainly handled the slower green better but it was a good tough game. A 6 on the 8th end by us always meant they were chasing from there. Greg and I played well together. Good warm up for Super Challenge Fours at the weekend as I am playing 3rd to Greg. Brian Lamb and I had a Wonderful Day at a Wonderful Club with Wonderful Greens. We came 2nd on count back as 3 teams on 3 wins +29. 1st game was the hardest against John Ritchie and Owen Simpson (Kingscliffe). Very tricky quick windy green saw us and the opposition both drop 5's within the 1st 3 ends. We had a hard fought win 14-11 and both played really well once we mastered the green. 2nd game against Warren Chapman and Bill Parr and a good win 16-4 but a heart break shot on 3rd last end when we were holding 7 on a Ditch to Ditch Jack and Bill played "The" Perfect bowl with his last to steal shot and the end which ended up costing us the tornament. 3rd game against Woody and Ken Ross we won 18-4 and we both played well again. Great day and hope they do the same thing again next year as there were 42 teams Ladies and Gents. Good Lunch too...
Joe Jerinic and I played Mal Ford and Bob Humes (Fresh from their Semi Final Club pairs appearance against Barry Gilbert and Sean Baker). They continued their fine form against us on a good paced Green. Joe and I tried to stay with them but Mal led very well and as usual Bobby was excellent with his drawing and his running shots and saw us slump to a 13-30 defeat. Joe has back problems but even fully fit we would have struggled to stop these two today. I played fairly well but Mal just edged me all day. Good game.
Sam Granata and I was attempting to win the Enduro for the 5th time.
1st game against Red Edwards and Henry Tindale. Although both opponents have not bowled for some time they gave a good showing and it was only a 6 to us on the 8th end that broke this game apart from us. We ended up winning 18-8 but a good game. 2nd game another thriller and Sam and I went to sleep a while against Ken Wilson and Merv Cobb who both played very well and Merv converted a lot of shots early. Down 5-13 on the 9th end, we made a great come back to be 13-13 on the 2nd last end. I had the mat a drew a resting toucher with my 1st bowl, Ken drew it off and thats where it stayed and we went down 13-14 in a thrilling good quality game. 3rd game against Ron Lewis and Ted Reid Mr Gravata. We went to a 9-4 lead and then Ted never missed his conversions. Ron Played pretty good too and we went down 10-18. We never played as well as other games although we never lost it, Ted won it. A good day although a little disappointed. I was very happy with My Leading anyway. |
