Day 2 here and Back and Hip still sore and not feeling well. WIll do the best I can today. 1st game against Andrew Griffith (Bribie) and Jamie Nordolf (Wynnum Manly) we were out played as Latif had a rare off game. Although we went down 14-21, we got a 5,4,3 and a 2 on the 4 ends we scored. Stuck in there well to frustrate them. They ended up 2nd overall on the day. I played pretty well considering my hip problem. 2nd gam on the Indoor against Gordon Simms (McKenzie Park) and Des Duller (Musgrave Hill). A very good game which we went down 11-17 and it was only the Great Bowls from Des who saved their Butt. Gorden and I had a great tussel and Latif played well too. 3rd game we played the Leaders, Peter and Gary Miles on 5 wins. We killed them 24-10 and once again played very well outside. Our win let in Bobby Lee and Greg Hughes to Win the Tornament. A good 2 days and enjoyed it.

Abdul Latif and I in another 2 dayer. Only 28 Rinks here as 1 outdoor green is not playable. 1st game we played Bryan Rumley and Terrance Manion (Tasmania) on Indoor Rink 5. We had a good game and went down 9-11 on the last end. Brian and Terry played very good bowls and we could not break them up. Was close all the way and Terry made some great bowls when needed. 2nd game outside on 17 second Back green. Played against Bobby Lee and Greg Hughes. Again, We led most of the way but they came back at us in the end and won 10-14 getting a 3 on last end. We had the chance to win but I was not in the head and Latif just missed a trail for 3 with his last bowl. They played very well and I was not on at all. Once again I hate being lead and I had very sore pinchy back all day today. 3rd game Indoor Rink 3 we had a good win over Blair Garden and John McVinish 18-6. We had a lot of luck early but played pretty well also. Not a good day and Hope my back is better for tomorrow also Final Tuesday at Cabarita of the Club Pairs.
The Last Saturday off for a while as Pennant Starts next weekend so a nice lazy day before a Busy week Bowls ahead.
I was Sucked in today with Phil Capon and Larry Pointing playing 2 bowl triples as Ladies Pennant take most of the greens. I am playing 2nd... Might be off to Mermaid Beach to play Friday morning Pairs for next 8 weeks or change days around to have Fridays off.
1st game against Harvey Lyons, Kevin Wills and Nic Tol we were beaten 4-18 over the 13 ends. Slow green and I played well at 2nd but Larry was short and Nic was on fire with his conversions. 2nd game I skipped against Tony Elliott and Graeme and Roy Freisl and we went down 19-21 on the last end. A fun game but triples !!!! Had enouygh of triples and cant wait to get back to Normal Pairs. Matt Cowan from Toowoomba Invited me to play with him after being let down by his original Partner and it was a pleasure to do so. We had 3 good games. This was 3 bowl pairs, 2 sets of 9 ends and tie breakers if required. 1st game we came up against a good pair of Paul Vardy and Des Cann Jnr (Jindalee) and pushed them all the way but went down 6-10 and 7-8. We both played well but I missed a few conversions that could have changed the game. 2nd game against 2 locals Kevin Fuller and Charlie Mcanany (Ipswich). We never played as well as we should and went down 9-10 and 3-11. 3rd and final game against Joe Haughey and Grant Halls (Booval) we won in a tie breaker 7-4, 6-11 and 3-1. Both played well again and very happy with my shot play. Greens ran well. Only 1 hour from Surfers so might look at a few more events this way.
Day 2..... Dennis Margan and I had a really good days bowls today. 1st game against Noel Buckingham and Greg Hughes from Paradise Point we won 12-9 in a good game which we played just slightly better bowls. 2nd game against Ray and Peter from South Australia, we were leading 18-6 but they came back at us and we won 22-16. 3rd and final game against Andrew Cole and Peter Elder from Musgrave Hill, we handled the Ditch Rink 21 a little better and had a very good 24-5 win and Won our Section so that was good. Would be nice to have 2 days off but been asked to play in Australian Open Pairs Thursday with Matt Cowan at Ipswich so I will get tomorrow off only.
Dennis Margan and I played 3 games 15 ends today. 1st game against Kevin Koohrey and Geoff Lanham. We had a good win 18-12 and we both played really well. 2nd game against Matt Cowan and Robbie Cresswell. We Started poorly and were down 3-13 after about 6 ends. Came back strongly and were 15-15 on 13th end but slipped up on the last 2 and dropped a 2 and 3 so lost it 15-20. 3rd game against Charlie Laws and Graeme French was another one we let slip although Graeme played really well and Charlie put in some telling bowls towards the end when we were still well in the game. We lost 16-20. A good fun day but will see what happens tomorrow in the sections. I must bowl more consistantly. Dennis Bowled pretty steady as he always does. The greens were running nice but a little unpredictable.
Myself, Charles Klaverstyn and Abdul Latif won the District Triples and this is Zone Play Offs today.
We played at a Cold Evans Head but the Greens were good. We started well and at the 12th end at 15-16 we were still well in it until the greens sped up and both Myself and Charles were too heavy all the time and it made it hard for Latif to get the shorts required. We lost 17-26 chasing shots at the end. I am glad to get away from Triples now and back to skipping Pairs where I seem to play a lot better. Leading is not my style although I try hard. A rush to get back from Cabarita Triples this morning but only just made it in time.
We played a trial for some Shield against Paradise Point at Southport. Barry Jackson, Clint, Myself and Steve Docking was our side. We played against Merv Austin, Ian Brighton, Sam Granata and Peter Thompson. We had a fine win 31-11 on our rink and I played really well. Very good draw and weighted shots. Barry and Clint also played well and Steve Docking, I was impressed with the quality of his bowls. Amazing as weather conditions would not let me preform with my bowls at Cabarita in the morning. Andy Winton beat Greg Hughes side 20-18 and Chris Hooper went down 17-26 against Try Corba. Not bad come back as was down 2-20 at half way. We won overall. Teams seemed to be pretty good and looking forward to the start of the season in 2 weeks. |
