After much thought of why I never bowled well, I know I have tight bowls and they certainly did not perform well on this surface. Maybe time to get a set of wider Greenmasters for a 2nd set on greens like this. I must say the greens ran very well, much better than last years event
Bob Brown and I played here today on pretty quick greens. Lovely day but i am damned if I could get the line and length all day. 1st game against Steve Wood and Anthony Keipe (Helensvale) we were well beaten 8-21. Had no idea and even the last end when holding 2 shots, with my last bowl I knocked up them for shot so made score look worse. 2nd game against John Keys and Barry Jackson (McKenzie Park). had a great win 27-1 thanks to Bobby Browns draw bowling. 3rd game against Ivan Ensbey and Tony Crompton, we just had to win to come back tomorrow, we were 0-13 down after 5 ends but recovered to 8-13 after 9. Dropped a 5 trying to get some numbers and eventually went down 10-23. Once again I struggled and although Bobby had a few good bowls, we never made the grade today. Not the only teams to struggle here today though. There were a few shock results on the day. Disappointing day by my standards and had better get act together for Port MacQuarie tornament in 3 weeks time.

2 Hour Indoors at Paradise Point testing out Bob Browns new XV-Ones Greenmaster. We played 3 games (Sets of 9 ends). 1st game was 8-8 draw, My bowls against Bobs new ones. 2nd game I played with Bobs new bowls against Bobs Green Powers and another 8-8 draw. 3rd and final game My Bowls against Bobs New XV-Ones and I won 7-6 on last bowl.
I never liked the line of the XV-One until I had the game with them. They are a nice line but the weight has to be just right to make them perform correctly. I am not sure they will suit Bob and his style but I know he will persist with them on and off. He is keeping the Box for when he is tired of them and I shall have them on Ebay A good roll up and looking forward to South Tweed Classic Pairs tomorrow. Confident of 3 top games and results. A good 1 1/2 hour roll up. Good running greens. Broadbeach went down in Division 1 yesterday at home to Mckenzie Park. Barry Gilbert and Sean Baker (Broadbeach) Played Ben Marshall and Glen Lyons (Paradise Point) in Champion of Champion Pairs Final at Mermaid Beach today. Result as soon as I hear it. Barry Gilbert and Sean Baker 21 beat Ben Marshall and Glen Lyons 13. Great effort every player to get that far into the final. Pennant Round 4 for Paradise Point Away to Tugun. A nice day and good running greens and another good win 2 rinks to 1. Ray Hansons team had a good come back from down heaps early to eventually lose 20-25. Our Rink Peter Thompson, Orm Geiger (Filling in for the injured Bobby Lee), Myself and Troy Corba had a good win although a touch of fortune at the end to win 19-18. Peter led the way with a good Solid lead. Orm had some good bowls as did myself and Troy. We Probably should have won but a few more than we did but thats bowls. Ray Glasser got us home with a fine win 19-9 although only settled on the 2nd last end when they got a 4 to secure our victory. Home next week to South Tweed. Another hard game dispite their recent results of defeats. We will not under estimate a team of Champions like Kelvin Kerkow, Neville Jenkins, Nigel Smith a co.
Windy again today and slower greens but Phil Capon and myself handled both games very well. 1st game against Eric Ewing and Mike Posslet we won 14-10 and had a good hard game until we picked up a 7. 2nd game against Steve Eyre and Noel Eyre on the same green and a good 19-6 win. Phil and I bowled well all day. Won 2nd money so that was good.
Windy day and John McLean and I played Lloyd Nash and Peter Parker for a good hard game which we won 19-13. Touch and go for a while but a mid flurry gave us the edge and a good win.
Bob Barry and I had a nice friendly competitive game against Margrette and Brian O'Farrell. We had our usual share of good luck but also played very well on the Ok running Middle green. Won 21-10. Margrette played very well, Brian had to drive a lot and usually connected without the result. Anyway a good win against these two. Nice Cold day too. Worst I have felt fo ages, Beanie weather and it came out too.
First time in a few months at Musgrave Hill for Bobby and Me. Broadbeach is a bit too far for Bob to travel every Tuesday and Paradise Point Tuesday afternoon finishes too late for me so we are back here for a while.
Slow greens after heavy rains of yesterday made this a drive fest. 1st game against Keith Drew and Albert (Brighton Victoria Visitor). We played long ends and blew them away. It was hard for us to reach even. We won 26-5 over the 12 ends. 2nd game against Tony and Joe Krimic we won 17-9. Good hard game and once again a drive-a-thon. Bob played very well and I had some great drives. Just missed out on the money. This afternoon is fun but 16 rinks (64 bowlers) only 2 cash prizes. 1 winners or winners and 1 winner of losers makes it a let down. Should be at least 2 prizes each division. Noel Ridgewell and I played the ENDURO Pairs today. Noels 1st time on the Indoor and he went very well. Played good bowls all day. Our First game against Bruce Prentice and Bobby Lee. A hard start as normal. The green started off good paced and Noel and I had a good lead 7-5 and playing very well. It rained and got cold and the green slowed and Bruce found his normal game of getting them close. I dropped a 5 which ended up costing us the tornament overall. Down 7-10 we fought hard but Bobby played some good bowls and we never quite recovered and went down 12-16. 2nd game against Eddie Parkins and Jim Crofts, Another good game but we got over them in the end and won 17-7 although never had it all our own way. 3rd and final game against Jeff Mearns and Ralph Hunt (2 game winners) and again we broke their hearts and won 18-11. Was touch and go after 8 ends at 7-7 but we managed to get ahead in the end and stay there. Jeff andralph once again bowled excellent bowls and were unlucky to have met us in the last game.
Bob Brown and matt Cowen had wrong Biases again. First one for Bobby for a Day or Two anyway. No games planned today. Might go to Broadbeach for a roll up this morning.
Actually went to Mermaid Beach and watched the Champion of Champion Pairs 1/4 finals. Barry Gilbert and Sean Baker (Broadbeach) played Shillington and McWhinney and Ben Marshall and Glen Lyons (Paradise Point). Never stayed and saw results. |
