Grant Osborne and I played Indoors today on Rink 4. Played against John McLean and Bob Brown. I played like shit all day. Had no idea, weight or line. Too much on my mind… Grant played very well and certainly back in form for Australia. John struggled early but came good and Bob played some good bowls and on shots for some good results. Will try and be in the mood next week otherwise will give Thursday Mornings away completely,
I will lead next week. Brisbane Motor Auctions Today. Must Buy as sold everything… No Bowls Today.
Broadbeach at 8.30 am to see some people but Not Bowling today.
No Bowls at This stage unless I get motivated and get a game at Cabarita.
Is it worth the drive?? Who to play with??? Have some business but can it wait ??? Will see later on…. ************************************************************************************************************** Decided to go down and wish I hadn't. Annoying Cross shifty breezes with sub standard greens. I played with Bob Mckay and he played pretty well and was nice to play with him. 1st game against Les Rootsey and Mick Morgan. Went down 5-16. 2nd game against Sammy Demarco and Bill McKenzie went down on last end 12-13. Nice warm day and better than staying home and good roll up fun but might be looking at playing Tweed Heads Indoor Mondays until Greens get a little better. Earplugs in. Gold Coast 600 Racing all day. What a waste of time
Suppose to bring Millions of Dollars to the Gold Coast. Apart from traffic upheaval, we went to Surfers Paradise last night and had no trouble getting a meal in a restaurant. Was not that busy apart from Rowdy Drunks screaming from apartments all night. Glad Ford Pulling out. Lets hope Holden do to.. Then it will be Flucked Off once and for all. I will have a nice quiet day anyway, cooking and relaxing… Thank God No more commitments with bowls for next 2 weeks only social when I choose and looking forward to a few days off.
Unfortunatly Gold Coast Car racing on for the petrol heads for 2 days so providing wind in other direction we won't hear much although can see it all from window of apartment. Traffic Kayos i can see but I am in for the day. Done my shopping, packed my bowls that I sold and going to do nothing much at all now… Grant Osborne and I will try and emulate our win here last year but will be tricky. Greens are supposed to be slower than normal. Will suit Grant. See how we go but will be a good day as usually is here.
***************************************************************************************************************** We drew a good card and after our start we should have won the tournament. Green was ok but never played well after the 1st game as tricky wind and slow green made it hard to get the shots you wanted to play without force most of the time.. 1st game against Roland Bunce and Barry Livingstone (Hamilton) we both played excellent for our 24-8 win in. 2nd game after a lovely lunch that weighed us down I think. We struggled most of the game against Phil & Nev (Hamilton) Down 9-12 with 2 ends to go we won a brilliant 6 to put us ahead 15-12 and almost certain of a 2nd win. Jack was moved and down 1 shot I failed with all 4 bowls to reach the head and left our only bowl open and Nev had his only drive for the game and took me out with his last bowl for a draw. 15-15. Disappointed .. We went into the 3rd and final game needing a win to get 3rd and maybe 2nd place. John and Sean Kelly from Hamilton played well early and we managed a good 4 on 4th end to put us up 5-3. Next end with 2 good shots on the head, Sean drove and got both our bowls out somehow and we dropped a 5. Down 5-8 and struggled to get back into the game although we did on 3rd last end when we led 14-13. Dropped a 1 on 2nd last end and went to last end 14-14. Lead changed with each bowl and they dragged Jack to be up. Grant Drew shot and then John Drew shot. Skips Last Bowls, Sean drew 2nd shot and my last 2 bowls were so close with the first just finding the gap and 2nd was within a whisker of sitting shot bowl clean but turned a centimetre at the last to hit but not sit and we dropped a 1. Lost 14-15. Would have finished 2nd overall. Good days bowls and although we both played some great bowls we also had a few off ends. Should have won last 2 games fairly easily but does not always go your way. Grant Played pretty well all day and is almost back to his best in a week I'd say. Grant Osborne freshly back from the UK on another Tour of Duty. We play again Thursdays and see how we go this year. Looking forward to it…
********************************************************************************************************************* Played Bruce Prentice and Bobby Lee today and the green ran pretty well. Grant played good and getting back to his dynamic best won't be long away. I was a bit on and off with weight but Bruce and Bobby just shaded us on the 19 ends played. Went down 14-18. Things will get better….. R.I.P Roy Wakeham A true Gentleman of the Game of Bowls who lost his battle with his illness this week. He will be certainly missed by everyone at Paradise Point Bowls Club. When I started bowls 11 years ago, I always remember I would get drawn against him and Billy Richmond at Helensvale on a Friday Morning and got a lesson every time. I recently sold his Bowls for him and only saw him last week and I am glad I had the chance to have him as a friend and to shake his hand again. |
