Abdul Latif and I had a tricky day with windy conditions and quick greens. We won both games. 1st game 10-8 against Ian and Jim Baxter. 2nd game against Bob McKenzie and Ron McCormack we won 14-9 although lost on end 6-7. Just could not adjust well today either of us.

Day Off Today for me today but I found this photo of the Helensvale Winning 2012 Fours Club Champions from Helensvale. Big Steve Cummings 2nd Left, Darren Mullens 2nd on Right. and the 2 wingmen left and right, Grumpy and Stumpy !!!!!!! Well done guys.
We played Ocean Shores today at home. They had a big win against Pottsville last week so we had better be on guard. We have a strong side so should go well.
*************************************************************************************************************** We won 2 rinks to 1 so 5 Points to 1. Geoff Westalls side won 22-17, Derek Hopps Team won 28-16 but our team Laurie Freeman, Brian Lamb, Myself and Abdul Latif went down 19-28. We just never got into it today and Ray Tonkin led against us well, Harry played some wonderful bowls with his drawing Vectors and the skip also.. Anyway 2 wins from 2 weeks and a weeks break for Easter. Will be at Byron Bay in 2 weeks for a Must Win game there too. Mick Morgan and I do battle at 11 am NSW Time. Will be a great game and I have to be playing my best to beat him. A fine draw bowler who knocked off Latif and others on the way through. Hope weather is fine and we get a decent paced green.
After being in front of a very close game most of the way, it was Mick that came away with the spoils with a 27-31 win. It was a terrific game of almost 3 hours and some terrific bowls played by both of us. Micks drawing beat me in the end but my up shots kept me in the game but towards the end when I needed 2, I missed by a hair on both occaions including the last end where a kitty would have given me a 4 and the match. The last shot was too hard to draw so it was an all or nothing shot. Micks 2nd time as he won this event in 2003. Hard man to beat but I will try again next year. Disapointed but there had to be a loser. I had my chances but just could not get away from him. Grant Osborne (Mr Lucky) and I played Rink 4 Indoor against George Yealland and Roy Godwin. We struggled early as George and Roy played very well and we were down 1-9 after 5 and 7-10 after 10 but came back strongly and Grant and I played some decent bowls for a 29-13 win. Good game and made us think.
Day off today. A few people picking up bowls I sold on ebay and a rest too.
I was supposed to play with Brian Lamb at Broadbeach in the morning but we cancelled there as he had an appointment but someone rang me for a game at Paradise Point in the afternoon and we managed to get in. 84 bowlers all 3 greens full of Mens Pairs. Brilliant.
I played with (Identity a secret to avoid my partner taxation problems from all his winnings) Anyway, Our 1st game against 2 from Brisbane. Ron from Algester and Eric from Logan City. We had a terrific game on the quick top green (until it showered and took 2 seconds off it) but it was nice to be on a good green again. We won 11-10. 2nd game against Geoff Ball and John Bennet on the slower green which is coming along fine. We had another good win 21-6 and ended up with 2nd money. Good afternoons bowls here but its just a shame that I get home so late after presentation. NEWS>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> NEWS>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> NEWS>>>>>>>>>>>> NEWS>>>>> Grant Osborne had a good day with a High 1st game win also the Jackpot. (Mr Lucky). Fred Barnes tried hard to get the Wrong Bias record from Red Edwards but fell short with just 3 on the day. Reds is 5, although he still maintains it was only 4. Almost an incident on the top green with Red Edwards making the Guinness Book of Records. A Brown Duck was waddling across the middle of the Green when Red was bowling, IF he had hit it and IF he had a wrong Bias it would have been a trick trivia question. In What sport can you have a Wrong Bias and a Duck? I am leading today for Brian Lamb. Early start so should be a good day.
Rained overnight and before we started so slow, soggy greens. 1st game on slowest green we had Ian (Tails) Taylor and Michael Turner (Kingscliff) They destroyed Brian and I, 4-22. We just could not adjust to the green and opposition played wonderful bowls... Ian and Brian also had a 30 shot win in their 2nd gam but came a cropper to Mario Azzopardi and Geoff Westall in the last game to get put out of the prize money. Our 2nd game against Hip and Bill (South Lismore) We won 18-13 on a better and best running green and we played a lot better. 3rd game we clicked and won 23-6 against Jeff Bird and Doc (Lismore City) , but just missed the High game prize. Nice Club and Good Bowlers here from all over.. Shame about the wet weather early but at least we stayed dry during play. Richard Allen and I had a good game and beat the showers against Kingscliffs Wayne Blackwood and John Akers. We were always close and probably should have gone ahead and won this game but Wayne and John played some excellent bowls also with a smidge of luck to be up 14-19 after 19 ends. I managed to trail kitty for 3 on 20th and we picked up a 2 to tie at 19-19 after 21 ends. Took a bowl out with my 3rd to hold final shot on the extra end but John put it back and I failed with my last to get it again so went down 1 and 19-20. Richard and I never played to our best but all the same played fairly well and was a good hard game
Mark Howarde and Abdul Latif beat Steve Halmai Team 19-18 so progress to next weeks round. Well done. Daily Diary - NSW Zone 1 Division 1Pennant for Cabarita Rd 1 V Condong Saturday 24th March 20123/23/2012 1st of 10 weeks of Pennant and a hard start Away to Condong and they have a good side on tricky greens. A must win 1st up for us. Going to be a good series with Home and Away against Condong, Kingscliff, Ocean Shores, Byron Bay and Pottsville.
Well We won Just... Laurie Freemen, Brian Lamb, Myself and Abdul Latif won 22-8 and all played well especially Lamby and Latif. Greens ran about 14 seconds and ok. The other 2 rinks were going alone fine but Geoff Westalls side slipped towards the end to go down15-26 and it was left to Dereks side to get us over the line with Dereks last bowl. 1 down overall, Dereks side 3 ends earlier made it difficult when they dropped a 7 to Halmai, It was Dereks with a drive and great shot that got a 4 on last end to get us up overall by 2 shots although they were down 25-26. Glenn Searles drive on Geoff Westalls last end also took out 3 opposition bowls which was also significant to our victory. Too close for comfort but a great effort as this team hard to beat at anytime. |
