We had 2 terrific games and Tony played some incredible bowls. He was the perfect lead today and was great support for our charge for 2 good wins. I also played some great bowls and 1st game against John (Rip) Whelan and Tom Hanlon and a good 14-7 win but we dropped a 4 on last end chasing a margin as it was raining and there was a possibility that the 1st game might determine the prize money if it was called off. The greens were true but heavy. 2nd game went ahead and we played Alex Foreman and John Fantini and another good win 15-5. No money today as some higher margins but we played very well together.
Normally I play with Phil Capon Fridays but he could not make it today so Tony Regan and I got a game together at Last. Never played together but against each other a few times.

Grant Osborne and I drew an Indoor Rink today against Roy Godwin and George Yealland. We started slowly and dropped a 6 on the 6th end to be down 5-12. Tightened our game and came back strongly and at 12 ends were 13-13. Over the next 4 ends we managed to get to 28-14 but within a sniff of winning the money, holding 6 on the 18th end, George with his last bowl dead drew a back toucher which I just failed to remove so we went down 1. They won the last 4 ends with some good bowls and we ended up Victors 28-19. A good game and a good comeback. Grant and I played ptreey well although the unpredictable Rink 5 was a pain.
Bob Barry still has a troublesome back so stood down today and Vince Beckley and I team up again for a game.
We played against Bobby Davis and Ron Schofield. Vince wanted to skip so gave me a chance to Lead. Heavy morning rain made the green slow and the wind made it tricky but I handled the conditions very well and was delighted with my leading against the Evergreen Bob Davis. We had a very close game until the 15th end and at 11-12 down picked up a good 5, also a 5 on the next end to slide us into a 21-12 lead. They would not lie down of course and they picked up a good 5 on us on the 17th end. 21-17. 1 to us on the 18th. 22-17. We were holding 2 shots on the 19th, Ron had a good drive to put kitty in ditch for 1 and then drew a 2nd and Vince failed to get 2nd shot. 22-19. Lost 1 shot on 20th end 22-20 and after we each kept the mat during the whole game, they gave the mat to us for the last end. I took mat up about 4 metres and rolled kitty and promptly drove the kitty in the ditch with my 1st bowl and ended up about 1 metre from kitty. Vince drew another and I drew the actual shot with my last bowl. Bob Davis ditched his 1st 3 in the ditch by the slightest margin but drew a brilliant 2nd shot. Only Vince and Ronny to bowl and we were 1 up on the head and sitting pretty well. Vince fell short with his 3rd bowl and Ron Brilliantly sat my shot bowl into the ditch which was 12" from the ditch so they were holding 2 shots. Vince, in 2 minds (No truth in the rumour he doesent have any mind at all !!), tried to run one of their shots into the ditch and cut across the head. So at 22-22 with Rons last bowl, Drew a wonderful shot to try and sit the 2 shot bowls and just fell in the ditch. A great game and a great result as no one deserved to lose the game. Overall I felt we played the better bowls but a draw was a good result. 22-22. Amazing isn't it? Red Edwards and Grant Osborne from Paradise Point came all the way to Broadbeach today to get a game against different opponents and different greens. They got the different greens and liked them but ended up drawing the same card as Gerry Ruggeri and myself so we played each other. We had a great game and it all started on the 1st end with a brilliant head and the game was set from there. Gerry and I had the better share of the luck and also played fairly well and had a good win 25-10. Being an end rink and their 1st time on these greens we performed slightly better and got up. Good game and Good Company.
Bob Barry and I played here again today. 1st game against Jim Rannie and Ron Mc Caulley and had a close game until the last end. We were leading 7-4 and playing well before dropping a 5 on the last end after Ron trailed a shot into the ditch and we failed to cut it down. 2nd game against Bill Creedon and Barry Griffith and a good win 13-7. Played pretty well although very fast green 18 seconds made it hard to stop the bowls especially on shorter ends. Bob still suffering slightly from Back problems but played some good bowls at time. He will be back on form pretty soon.
Nice quiet day. Went to Broadbeach Bowls Club and caught up with a couple of mates for a beer and chat. No Bowls today. Looking forward to Cabarita tomorrow.
Myself (Bernie Lamberton), Grant Osborne, Sam Granata and Ray Trewern (Winners) We all had a good week and we were looking forward to the Final against Tony Regan, George Brahams, Roger Goodridge and Barry Alderdice. What a Great day for it. Warm Sunshine and a 17-18 second green. We started well and slipped out to an 11-1 lead after 5 end which is not always a good thing to do. They stuck with us and clawed their way back at 11-9 and from then on it was very close the whole way. At one stage 16-15 but we managed a spurt and a 3 and 1 made it 20-15. On the 19th end luck was on our side and we got the 1 shot to make it 21-15. 2 ends to go and they got a 2 on the 20th and made it 4 difference going into the last end. Holding 3 shots and game, Roger Killed the end and we had to fight again and a good 1 on the replayed last end gave us the win 22-15.
Phil Capon and I had another 2 exciting games today. Phil Skipped as usual for a Friday. 1st game against Noel Eyre and Steve Melton was a thriller which We Won on the last end. Phil had a great game with good determined draw and run shots. Noel and Steve, Always hard to beat and going into the last end we needed a 2 to win as down 8-9. I drew 2" from kitty but Noel had a bowl 1 foot in front and blocking draw and extra shot and we would have lost on ends just getting 1 shot. I had a control weight shot and drove his bowls out giving us 2 shots. Steve tried in vain to knock his short bowl up and we won 10-9., Very good game. 2nd game against John Downer and Ern Smith. We led 9-3 but driving Ern played some good bowls and converted well on rink 22. Trickey green and wind and we dropped a 6 on 2nd last end. John played his best 4 bowls of the game (His only bowls of the game) Lost 10-13 although we should have won game. Phil played some good shots again but 2 vital ones never came off but its all experience and a good game anyway. Neither of us were going to win any money so it was all good practice. Today I played some Great bowls but also took a while to get going. Friday is a fun day and when I have to draw I can as proven today. Its all in the Mind.
Grant and I played Tony West and Bob Bailey and had a commanding win today 38-11. I was a bit scratchy early but played some nice bowls at times and Grant was Very good again with some lovely draw shots and conversions. We won the money and guess what? The jackpot too. Well deserved I must say. Tony played failry well but Bob seemed to struggle with weight on a slightly holding green after yesterdays rain. Great day and bigger and better things to come. Grant Skipped. I enjoyed leading but have to get more consistant as lead. Not done it for so long but never have been a good lead. I have too much aggression.
Bob Barry and I had it tough today. Bob, suffering from back trouble but still played fairly well dispite the Rain Interuptions and Wet Slow green. We played against Don Cummings and Geoff Hawkins. These are 2 bowlers you want to meet when a green is running well and not having to drive to get to the head as all skill is lost. Don and Geoff played very well and Geoff made a number of conversions early that had us on the back foot the whole game. Bob and I were narrow mist of the day. We lost 12-31 and although won 3 of the last 4 end when the weather decided to be kind, We dropped a 5 on the last end chasing shots. One of those game to forget and many near misses and I never really played well. Anyway tomorrow I know will be good.
