Latif and I, our last game before he goes on Holidays for 5 weeks. Looking forward to playing well.
Played against Laszlo Marer and dennis McDonald. Not 2 I wanted to play against as they usually play very well together. They started well with 2 and 2 but we managed to get it together and had a bit of luck along the way and ended up winning 38-12. latif as usual on fire with his drawing. Lasz Struggled a bit. Dennis played pretty well without much luck. Anyway we got 2nd money as someone had a plus 35. We only had Plus 28. Brian Lamb and I played here today. I skipped as Brian Trying out new bowls. I Skipped very well. Played against Graham Lake and Bill Dovey and had a good 16-5 win. 2nd game against Kevin Kennedy and Ron McCormack we won 18-7 but only got 9 of the 13 ends. Nice weather, Good running greens at last.
No Bowls Today again. Just as well after storms last night and slow greens today.
Was supposed to have a rest today for Byron Bay Friday all dayer but that is now cancelled so I decided to have a game with Lamby at Broadbeach today.
******************************************************************************************************************** Was in the mood for a nice easy game today but we drew Phil Brandon and Abdul Latif.. Green ran fairly well but a slight breeze early and I never found my weight and line in the 1st half of the game and against these 2 we were truly up against it unless we fired from the start. First 3 ends were tight but some great bowls from Latif saw a 0-7 lead after 3 ends and 0-12 after 5 ends. The game went like that and we were totally out bowled although the 2nd half of the game i played better but we only won 6 ends and went down 6-30. Lamby still complaining about his Tight Bowls. Must admit there were times when they never turned. Good fun game anyway and there is always tomorrow… I have 3 days off now so thats good. Still a bit sore from the weeks bowls so will do me good. Brian Lamb and I had a Great day today. Rain Cleared and we had a good Days Bowls.
1st game Normal 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 against Trish Philips and Jasmine. We won 21-4 and played excellent Bowls on the nice running greens. Won 12 from 15 ends. 2nd game 2 x 4 x 2 against Pat Elder and Peter Elder. Played pretty well without much Luck (haha). Must say we had a rub of two which is actually normal the way I play, we ended up winning 22-3. (12 from 15 ends) 3rd game 2 Bowl Pairs against Mako and Cliff McDonald. Continued with Good bowls and dispute losing 10 or the 25 ends we won 35-13 and ended up Overall Winners on Margins in the end to Win the day. I Hate Giving Thank you speeches but today was nice to thank the Bowlers that took the effort to make this a great event, Bowlers from Many Many clubs. I wish all tournaments were like this one, played in friendly yet competitive conditions. Well played Brian with his Blessed Greenmaster Super 10's Was great to see 34 teams here as usually they struggle to get entries but I think everyone had a good days bowls. PICTURED ERIC JUDD - BROADBEACH BOWLS MEMBER FOR MANY YEARS I started my Bowling at Broadbeach Bowls Club almost 12 years ago and have bowled against some Good Bowlers, Average Bowlers and Bloody Awful Bowlers but 99% of them I have great respect for and have enjoyed every game win or lose.
Over the years I have seen a few Broadbeach Member/Friends slip away like Jim Parisi, Joan Macadoo, Thelma Crocker, Roy Williams. Ian Reid. Alan Groves. I am sure there are many more but at this moment my memory fails me. I find it very hard to fathom that bowlers and members who are always there at the club, either playing or organising for years are not missed or completely forgotten about by Members and Committees when they are not there. People do not seem to go out of their way to find out how a member is who has not been at the club for sometime. We obviously all live in our own little worlds and its only when we hear they have passed on that we say, Oh… he was a good bloke and thats it. All forgotten and life goes on. I suppose thats the way of the World. My Old Friend Loui Le Frank I know is in a Nursing Home Now and is well.. Does any body ever ask about him. No. Not as far as I know. Over the Past few weeks I noticed that Eric Judd had been missing. I asked if anyone knew where he was but no one knew. I Phoned Eric Judd today and spoke to his wife and she said that Eric Had been Very Sick. Eric Rang me back this afternoon and told me of his illness and no one else from the Bowls club has bothered to phone him or see where he is yet he was a member of Broadbeach for as long as I have been there and always competitive Bowler, A nice Pleasant friendly Guy. Kept to himself in a way and never got involved with any Bullshit Politics that seems to go on at Clubs. . When I started I remember he played a few games with me to get me going as you know how hard it is to get someone to play with a New Bowler. Anyway, What I am saying is . If someone is not at bowls for a few weeks unexpectedly, Ask Why. Please take the effort to ring or enquire. It can mean a big difference in people knowing they are missed and cared for by someone. This last 2 days I have had some Great news from one of my Bowling friends great diagnosis with Cancer Results that is is almost Clear yet Very Sad News from another which has made me very upset. Life is hard I Know. Everyones life has to come to an end sometime and we all know it but taking the time to find out about someone who has been a friends and fellow bowler and knowing that someone cares and is distressed about their situation can give a person hope and help them along for their last few days/Weeks/Months. Sorry for this post but I just wanted to let people know my feelings. Latif and I back up again from yesterday.
Played against Brian O'Farrell and Graham Alexander. Had a great tussle and got to a good 18-5 lead before they pegged us back with numerous ends but we managed to prevail and ended up on a 25-18 win overall. Greens slow after the rains yesterday but still ran well but had to remember to get to the head. Abdul Latif and I will attempt to win 3 from 3 games today. Always seem to get 2 and fail on 3rd. Bloody Rink 1 has cost us a few times.
***************************************************************************************************************** Rink 1 Not to blame today. Latif Slept in so arrived at 9.25am. Noel Gray filled in for me in the 1st game against John Bennett and Alan Young. Noel played wonderful bowls with his Greenmaster Super 10.s We were up 7-2 when Noel left after 6 ends. latif and I played ok but could not shake John and Alan off. On last end we were up 14-12 and holding shot before Alans last bowl took our bowl out and got kitty back for 3 and we went down on last bowl 14-15. I should have had another bowl there. Played great the whole game until last end. Shit…. 2nd game against Alan Elliott and Alan Brough. Down 3-7 early, came back very well for a Great 22-12 win. They had won 1st game by 17 shots and were pretty confident until they met us. 3rd game against Barry Coombes and Bob Avery Should have won this one on Paper but although Barry tried hard it was Bob who saved many many shots when we were holding either with a run or a draw. We ended up winning 15-12 with a 1 shot on the last end. Was a great game all the same and we had to fight hard. Once again a great days bowls. Won $20 Lucky Rink again. Hopefully next Month will be playing with Grant Osborne from the UK if he is settled back in. |
