Brian Lamb and the 2 last games, 2 games 15 ends..... I was handed the card today to Skip. 1st game against Peter Condon and John Balzarado. Brian and I played pretty well on the slowish green and had a bit of luck in our 16-6 win against Peter and John. 2nd game against Dennis O'Toole and Sue O'Toole. We started well on that tricky top green and never really were confident and we went dowj 12-20. Over all 4 wins from 8;. OPk I suppose but could and should have been better. Event won by Nigel Smith and Neville Jenkins who we actually beat on the 1st day. Funny thing too that 2 years ago when I played with Dennis Margan, We beat Robbie Dobbins and Ray Glasser and almost knocked them out of the section but they got through and ended up winning the Competition. Giant Killers... haha...
Day 2 with Brian Lamb 1st game against Elka and Joe Van Barr from Geelong. They had not won a game and we had a good win 24-7. 2nd game against Geoff Jensen and Carol Rembacher also never won a game and we had another good win 20-9. Both games we played pretty well. 3rd game against Steve Massey and Mario Azzopardi. We lost 6-21. Played ok but not well enough. Dont mind leading but for the right person. Some times it just does not work, 2 skips on 1 rink. Oh Well
Brian Lamb and I started Day 1, 1st of 8 games against Karen Goldsworthy (Springwood) and Lyn Long. Good game and up to 8 ends was just 1 shot in it. Lyn had a drive and sat on kitty in the ditch and things went bad from there. Greens were slowish but still ran well although not much turn for our bowls. We lost this game 11-18 and 9 ends from 10 in middle stages. 2nd game against Ben Savva and Jamie Smith (Wynnum Manly). Good game and Brian and I played well but we were edged out by some super bowls from Jamie who converted very well all game. We lost 5-18. 3rd and final game today we played Nigel Smith and Neville Jenkins (South Tweed), Another top game and we managed to get a win on the last end 14-13 but really deserved it as we stayed with them all the way and took our chances well. Good days bowls and sometimes the results just dont go your way. After 4 days off I ached especially my corns. Looking forward to next 2 days anyway.
Myself and Mario Azzapardi were supposed to be playing at Mermaid Beach Today in the morning 2 games, 21 ends, 2 bowls Pairs but owing to heavy rains yesterday and Mario coming so far and forecast not good, I Cancelled. As it was the event could have gone ahead although there were only 6 teams down before I cancelled. I did not want to be in the situation of wondering if to get Mario to come 35 km only to be rained off. As it was a pathetic performance from the bowlers. Mermaid are trying something new and it need support. If each so called "Good Bowler" asked a friend who they would like to bowl with and who would not normally bowl, It would fill up quickly and there would be a weekly waiting list. Lets try for Sunday 4th September. Only need 14 teams.
Pennant for McKenzie Park at Burleigh Heads Rained Off today so another Day Off. 1 Point each.
Yep.. Another Day off. I am beginning to like this.
Ray (Rocky) Trewern and I had a nice game together today, well I think we were together as Ray was often on the other Rink Haha. We played against Leif Anderson and Erwin Achtzehn on Rink 3 Indoors. The Greens were running so much better than Monday when it rained and the Carpet was obviously damp and the bowls stayed straight. I was more than happy with my game today and drew well and played all my shots. We went down 14-23 but chasing on the last few ends made it look worse than it was. We were in the game right up to 19th end. Good fun day and back here against Next week with another mate before he goes back to Melbourne for the Summer. ALDO.
