I am filling in for Bob Brown today as he is recovering after 3 days at South Tweed. John McLean and I played Indoors Rink 5 against Roy Godwin and George Yealand. I thought I had 8 hard games over the last 3 days until we met these two. We just could not break them down. Even in the end when I got a 4 on the 18th end to lead 19-18 for the 1st time in the match, They finished us off with 3 singles shots and we lost 19-21. Was a good game on a difficult green. They both played great bowls today.
I just wanted to Congratulate Paradise Point Division 1 side for their 2nd Win last weekend.
Another piece of astounding News circling the traps yesterday was that RED EDWARDS had a Wrong Bias in Pennant On Saturday. This must have been a shock as it must have been 3 days since his last one !!!!!! Remember Red, Little Ring .................... 3rd and Final Day. Must win Both games today to have a chance of a lower placed prize today.
******************************************************************************************************************* Well We Did It. 1st game against the hard pair of Scott DeJohng and Jamie Anderson who have been on fire in this tornament. We had a terrific game and both played well once again for our 18-12 Win. 2nd game against Richard Latta (Lennon Head) and Mark Bayliss (Lismore). Up 4-0, Down 4-8 and then end to end after that. 9-10 down going into the last end. Holding 2 shots ditch to ditch and Marks last bowl found a hole to slip through and we won 11-10. Terrific 3 days bowls. 5 Wins, 1 Draw, 2 Narrow Losses. Although we missed the "Big Boys" it was still at tough draw. Our hardest game was against June Beverly and Eyrin Finnigan. Luck beat us early in that game and then brilliant bowls finished us off. Back to Skip Social Tomorrow at Paradise Point. 2nd day and see how we go today. NO WILD DRIVES !!!!!!!
***************************************************************************************************************** 1st game today against a 3 game winner from yesterday. We played very well and were up 13-10 going into the last end against Scott Walker and Glen Pauling from Western Australia. Glen trailed the kitty for 3 with his last bowl and we ended up a draw. Brilliant game. 2nd game today against June Beverly and Eyrin Finnigan. We certainly never had any lock especially in the first few ends and were on the back foot the whole game and dispite playing well, in the end they played a little better with some magic shots and we went down 9-17 in a very good game. 3rd game against Linda Gardiner and Dave Gerdiner. We had some luck this time and also played well for our 21-5 win. Weather was better today and not so windy and greens ran well. 1 More day to go tomorrow. 3 Long Days ahead, 8 games 15 ends with Brian Lamb. Should be fun anyway and I love Pairs, The best game. Beats everything else by miles.
******************************************************************************************************************** 1st game against Dennis O'Toole and Sue O'Toole. 0-8 down after 3 ends but fought back strongly to win the game 18-15 in a very good game. Played well on difficult slowish green from overnight storm with strong winds. We played these 2 last year and they beat us then. 2nd game against Neil Peach (New Farm) and Barry Maher (South Toowoomba). Had them on toast and played really well at 11-4 before a wild drove from Brian dropped a 6. No real need for it. Easy draw but just a rush of blood. From then on struggled although held the lead going into last end and 1 up on the head the last end. Last Bowl by Barry took our bowl out and we dropped a 5 to lose 14-18. 3rd game we played well and had our share of luck for a 22-13 win against Larry Pointing (South Tweed) and Matt Bell (Helensvale). Good day in all and still are in there as last year 7 game winners won it. 2 more days to go. Myself, John North and Latif play against a team from Brunswick Heads in the 1st Round.
********************************************************************************************************* We Lost 20-30. Greens were Quick and got Faster as the morning progressed. We played Errol, Bob Montgomery and Michael Petrov (Brunswick Heads). They were slightly the better side and we matched them early but Errol led very well and Bob Montgomery Bowled some great touchers throughout the game. We tried hard but it just never fell our way when the luck was distributed. 1 turning point in the game was an interruption from the umpire at a vital stage to warn Latif he was not to go to the head. This action from the Umpire although incorrect anyway, should have been done after the end had finished and NOT before Latif was about to bowl his vital bowl, Which he muffed because of if. It was a vital turning point in the game. Anyway its all over for us again this year. It certainly does not get easier. 3 weeks, 3 losses. Last week I played 2nd and we went ok and only went down by 3 shots to a strong side. Would like to be skipping but obviously not good enough so I don't mind playing 2nd as don't have any responsibility and Don't give a "Flying Duck" anymore. See how we go today. "Phuket" Maybe I should go there. Sounds a Good Place !!!!!
****************************************************************************************************************** Well Well, David Baker and Arthur Campbell both Crook today so I finally get the chance to Skip a Rink and where better that Broadbeach. Our side was John Mitchell, Trevor Hollis, Blair Garden and Myself, We played Scott De Johng, Ryan Kahn, Dave Gardiner and Sam White. We had a good game and as Usual John Mitchell led very well. 1st time I had played with Trevor and he played well too after a few ends when he got the weight on a slowish green which had been watered too much. Blair who has not played much recently struggled most of the game bout gave me a few good bowls towards the end. I was very happy with my game in all apart from 2 ends. We lost the game 15-21 but were in it up til the last end. I had the chance to trail the kitty for 4 with the last 2 bowls but narrow miss with the 1st and short on the 2nd left us 2 down. Was a good game and we were more than competitive. Beaten by the 2 poor ends. Once again Sam played a few good bowls when required which was enough for his win. Chris Hoopers side went down 15-19 after leading against Sean Inghams side most of the game. Ethan Lord went down 12-31 to a Hot Ryan Bester side. Another fairly good showing and have to keep it up for next week against Helensvale and hope to get them on our quick greens at Mckenzie Park and catch then off guard. Phil Capon and I had 2 good games. 1st against Gordon Armitage and Kevin Wills (Again). We won 11-6 but a good hard game. 2nd game against Gary Carr (Impact Bowls) and Phil (Harry) Potter with his New Redlines Size 5. Only a few fortunate wicks by me kept us ahead all game and we won 10-8 but it was really a hard game against these two who were always there. Good Day and greens ok as cloud cover buit it never rained as forcast.
