Looks like a good team of Bald Eagles for the Broadbeach 5 a side later this year. !!!!!

Charlie Klaverstyn, Myself and Abdul Latif tried our skills in the NSW District Triples.
Boiling Hot 36 degrees and we were lucky to have a forfeit in the morning. We played fresh against a Cudgen team who had a hard win in the morning. Jimmy, Brian and John Turner. I played lead and played excellent bowls and only 1 bad end and set it up for Charlie and Abdul who both played well when they had to. We are a good solid team and even if we had played this morning I think we would have had the edge Jimmy played well for Cudgen, Brian was a little short all day on the slowish but true green and John had no luck and often slid off the wrong side of the bowl. We won 30-9 after 22 ends when they pulled the pin. First time at this club and was impressed with the Greens and Facilities and the people here. Well done. Looking forward to Semi Finals and Final next weekend. Might be playing the Ocean Shores side that knocked us out and won the District Fours. Will be good if we do. Bring it on.. Ken Wilson and I played again in the Pairs in Bronze. We played against Algester teamof Mick Sawyer and Paul Williams. We were out to a 4-0 lead after 2 ends but dropped and 5 and 4 and were down 6-12 after 7 ends and decided that drawing was the better option. Ken played great bowls again and after a slow start I came good with some good bowls and we had a 23-16 win. Robbie Dobbins and Grant Osborne had a good win in the other pairs. Bob (Birdman) Averys team had a last end win and all played well. Alan Clarke had a narrow loss in the Singles and the Fours went down but 3-2 win overall. Why change a winning side. The fours had a good win last week yet the side was changed?...
Gold.... Peter Thompson had a good Singles win. After playing at Greenslopes yesterday on slow greens I knew he would play out of his tree. Ray Hansons Fours a good win. Bob Lee and Greg Hughes and Sam Granata and Troy Corba had narrow losses and Ben Marshalls Triples were well beaten for the first time this season. Lost 2-3. Hard to get to finals from here. Still I know where I would rather be, playing against The Best players in Gold. Be interesting to see what combinations they try next week or maybe they will just give up on Gold now after 3 losses. Anyway, tomorrow District triples at Murwillumbah with Charlie Klaverstyn and Abdul Latif. Hope we go well. we were stiff in the Fours 3 weeks ago. Peter Thompson and I were looking forward to this Challenge again after we done so well on our last visit. Top Invitation Competition. More People should go out of their way to get into these events. This one I believe is Full and so it should be. Top Day, Great People, Good Bowlers and Great Food. Traffic.. No Problem..
3 games, 3 Wins and 4th place overall but really should have won it overall. The greens were very slow after being fuill of water after yesterdays rains. 1st game against Bob Myers and Ray O'Brien. We played fairly well and won 16-8. Had a bit of luck but probably handled the slow green a little better than the oppositon. 2nd game after lunch I felt nackered and had to get stuck into the Gatorade. I never bowled well but we had a win 14-12 against Graham Dickson and Norm Broadhurst (Manly). The other green we were on was doing funny things and slow and I hated it. Still a win is a win. 3rd and final game we played Rambo and Travis. They were fill ins for a team that never turned up. By the end of the day they were pretty tired and we never had much opposition and won 30-8 although the last 6 ends Jiggy filled in for Travis and played well and pegged the score back for them. If I had bowled better on the slower greens we could have had a bigger margin as 42, 38, 33 and us on 32 were the 3 wins plus margins. Another good day and Well done Chris and Mel for running it. Another one planned for Friday 25th March 2011. Grant Osborne and I played Ray Trewern and Red Edwards in Pairs on a slow top green. Won 22-14 but a good performance and some good bowls by Ray and Red stopped us from a runaway win. 4 times holding 6 or more shots to be denied by 1 bowl from one of these famour pair. Anyway We won an Anzac Ticket also the Jackpot so it all worked out well.
Brian Lamb and I played here today on slow greens after rain took the run off early. 1st game against Wayne Blackburn and Jim Cook (Kingscliffe) was a tight game and we managed a win 11-9. 2nd game against Jim and Ray (Ocean Shores) We went down 11-12 on the last end. Brian struggled a little with the slow greens and although a good game, 2 or 3 good converions from Jim stopped us in our tracks. Although we won more ends, dropped a 4 which cost us dearly.
Vince Beckley and I played today in the Valentines Day Pairs and thankfully beat the rainy weather. 1st game against Barbara Goldien and Dennis Heaton (Benowa) on the back green. We won 14-7 and bowled ok. Got into the winners circle and 2nd game against Lyn Georgiou and Billy Georgiou. Neither Vince or I played particularly well and we went down 14-17 on the last end. Funny conditions and the green never drew much and the opposition certainly handled it better than us and Billys little drive through the head worked for him today. Anyway, Will give Broadbeach another week before deciding what to do Tuesdays. I am not bowling well here but fine everywhere else. ??
Bob Barry and I played our 1st game against Peter and Pat and we had a good hard game and won it on the last end 13-10 when I trailed the Jack with my last bowl. Bob bowled pretty well. Green quick but running different than yesterday. 2nd game against Ray Anderson and Kevin Stanley was tight at 8-8 after 8 ends before I dropped a 5 and it was hard from then on. We went down 12-16 but lack of concentration and chatting by me but I was here today to unwind from last 2 days and felt pretty good although bowled average only. Getting ready for Greenslopes on Friday with Peter Thompson.
Last night I came back from Super Challenge and collapsed into bed. I was absolutly rooted. Flu had taken me over and I was in a heavy sweat and just wanted to die with my throbbing head and sore nose. I dosed myself up before trying to sweat the cold out. Of all weekends with my final today of the Fours at Cabarita I just want to play and play well. I can cancel the rest of the weeks social stuff if I can only get through today.
I woke this morning, head still thumping but nose not running as much. Cough is beginning to appear now so a big dose of stuff might get me through the day. Cabarita Beach (My New Club) Fours Final with Barry, Ian and Abdul. Greens should be nice and I hope I play as well as I have in the lead up to the final. I am playing 3rd. What a game. Paul, Cess Shephard, Dave and Steve Anderson against Barry Venner, Ian Crabb, Myself and Abdul Latif. It was a terrific final and everyone played their part. We got away to a good steady lead and 6-0 up after 4 ends. They stayed within touching distance the whole way although we managed to get out to a 17-8 lead at one stage, it was never that far for long. Steve Anderson made a succession of 4 or 5 ends with magical bowls that saw our lead slip to 16-21 down with just 3 ends to play. It was not that we fell away, they just played brilliant bowls. I managed to stay calm and keep the team with belief over those last 3 ends where we picked up a 1 and a 2 going into the last end down 19-21. We managed to get into a winning position holding 4 shots and made it almost impossible for Steve to draw to save the game and we survived in the tightest of games and won 23-21. With this standard of bowls and bowlers here at Cabarita I am sure we are going to have a good season at Pennant and beyond. Its nice to be playing with a bunch of guys who believe in their bowls and their ability. Ken Wilson and I played in the Bronze Super Challenge Pairs after I was Dumped from Gold after last weeks loss. Evidently I was only a fill in for Barry Alderdice in the Fours, who was away for the 1st week.
A Stinking Head Cold. I Stayed in bed all morning and on Sudafed to try and stop nose from running. Hate Bloody Colds....... Ken Wilson played Brilliant Bowls and I chipped in with some rippers at times as we had a good 21-11 win in our Pairs game in the Bronze. Wayne Khrons and Grant Osborne who were down 1-14 after 6 ends fought hard and over came the early set back to a Wonderful win 26-22 I think the score was. great effort guys. John McVinish Fours side had a very strong win. Bob Avery Triples had a dog fight and secured the win on the last 2 ends. Alan Clarke narrowly went down to Joe Jerinic 28-31 in a thrilling game. 4-1 win to the Bronze... The green ran very well considering it just come back in 2 weeks ago. Gold Section. Peter Thompson went down to Dean McWhinney although fought back from early being down by 15 shots. Not 100% on final score but margin was about 12 I think. Sam Granata and Greg Hughes were always going to have a hard game against Graham Shillington. I think they went down by about 8 shots. Good effort guys. Bob Lee and Troy Corba had another hard game and went down by about 14 shots I think. Ray Hansons side were all square with a couple of ends to go but an unfortunate bit of luck on 2nd last end meant they needed a 4 to draw and they eventually went down by 3 shots. Ben Marshalls team had a fine win against Woodsy from Burleigh. Gold down 1-4. Oh well, my opinion although it means squat... Gold have no chance of making the play offs after 2 loses. Hard away games against Mooloolaba and Noosa will determine that. Do they stack the Bronze now? Unfair to the Bronze teams that have done so well if that happens. I know of Only 1 player who would want to go to the Gold Section under the Circumstances but doubt he will get the chance again. Oh well, 4 years here has been fun and time to move on... |
