John Tavendale (Greenslopes) and I had 3 great games today. Latif unavailable as he played at South Tweed All dayer Pairs. 1st game we played Bill McKenzie and Warwick Gorden and had a tight 12-7 win over the 14 ends. John and I played very well and waa a top class game to beat these two. 2nd game against Merv Austin (Big winners in 1st game against Ron Lewis and Ted Reid). We won this one 15-7 in another fine performance. 3rd and final game against Mick McGrath and Barry Alderdice. We were up 14-1 after 5 ends but they came back well and we dropped Three 3's. We ended up winning 20-11 dropping an important 1 on last end which cost us the overall win. Tage Pedersen and Brett Eade won 3 wins + 24. We had 3 wins +22. 2nd place again but was 3 good games and John Played Very well. was a pleasure to have him come down.
Phil Capon and I played Gary Balderstone and David Kelly of Broadbeach and had a good hard game for a 22-21 win. All played some good bowls on holding but good green. Fabulous Day and Tons of Prawns to eat after the game.. Over 2 Full greens today and they way it should be.
At home to Byron Bay today. Our side has a change again with Glen Searle coming in as Lead. I am 2nd, Brian Lamb 3rd and Latif Skip. 4 more games and 4 more wins will see us take the Flag.
*************************************************************************************************************** Our Rink Lead most of the way with a slight hiccup on the 17th and 18th end when Latif had 2 bits of Bad luck and slight misjudgement and we found ourselves down 17-18. Anyway.. We came back strong for a 22-18 win. Dereks side held well and came home strong for a 24-14 win. Geoffs team led well again early but found themselves down 18-21 on last end but good bowls, especially the last 2 from Geoff saw a 4 and a 22-21 win so 6-0 what we desperatly needed. Next weekend a Double Header and 1 skip down.. Will have to win against Pottsville and then the 1st of 2 Flag winning performances needed against Kingscliff. John McLean and I played here today as Fours at Paradise Point today also Bob Brown away for 2 weeks so I am filling in with John til then. We played George Martin and Bob Humes and we knew we were in for a hard game and these 2 played well and it took a few good bowls and slides to get ahead and stay there. Was a very good game and some good heads. We ended up winners 25-12 but the score was no real indication of the tight game we had. Johns Knee was sore after his knee operation and only his 3rd game back but he played ok.. Wont take him long to get back
John North and I played here today and I let him skip. 1st game against Mick Morgan and Derek Hopps was a good game and we all played good bowls but Derek was the difference with his Conversions and saved numerous shots too., We lost 11-17. Greens Ran well all day with light breezes. 2nd game against Bill McKenzie and Barry Henry we played well again and won 21-6. 3rd game against Jimmy McGill and John Turner, we were patchy early and they pulled away and we were down 5-14 but came back to 11-15 and missed playing the last end and could have been interesting as we were on a roll. A good day and we got a High Game (2nd Game). I certainly play my best bowls at Skip although played well today. In Future I am skipping these events and will play with people who dont mind that. John played very well today all the same. New Aero Bowls and the hold their line well with the Drive.
Latif and I played Peter Lumb and Joe Cacace for a 24-17 win. It was a good game and we were out to an 11-1 leadf but hard play from Peter and Joe they got back to 15-14 before we pulled away again for a good victory. Green ran wonderful and I never played as well as I wanted but we got away with the win.
Steve Massey, Mario Azzopardi and Myself playing together in this one. Last time we arranged it, it was rained off. High winds forcast and colder weather after a wonderful last 10 days or 25-29 degrees every day. 21 forcast for today. 2 game 28 ends 2 bowls Pairs...
1st game against James Mcquire, Bernie and Max Shelley (Mermaid Beach). We decided that I lead, (Bad mistake) Steve 2nd and Mario Skip. We were all out of position. We were totally out played the whole game although the opposition on their own turf played very well and when we held shots it was Max who played the best game I have ever seen. We found all the usual holes a team finds when chasing and although always within striking distance if things turned, they never did and we were eventually hammered 18-37. Playing for ends, not shots although we only got 12 of them from the 28. 2nd game Steve Massey (Specialist Lead), Mario 2nd and Me Skip. We were playind Allan Cook, Bob Ryan and Dick English (Mermaid Beach). This team had just Hammered Ray Morris, Vince Beckley and Brian Lamb by 25 shots or more in the 1st game. In our correct positions we all played excellent bowls and won 34-25. Moral of the story, Dont play players out of position. Its the last time I do that. Anyway a frustrating long day and why I played 2 bowl triples I dont know its just that I had promised a game with Steve and Mario. Unless it is pairs I have absolutely NO INTEREST. |
