The rains stayed away and Bob Barry and Myself had a good game against Peter Nolan and Dennis Heaton. We won 32-16 and 2nd money on a day when an on shot was easy which suited me fine. We drew a few too but handled the conditions a little better than our opposition. Good practice just incase we get slow greens at Helensvale Saturday for pennant, HAHA.

Rain stopped our Pairs today at Paradise Point but we played Fours on the Indoor instead and had a damn good game. Mick D'emico, Barry Knight, Lloyd Nash and Myself played Bryan Weldon, Mark Herringe, Lyle Kirkwood and Roy Goodwin. We won 25-12 in a very good spirited game where our side all performed very well. The opposition did not have much luck either but I own the Luck. Just ask Roy. I played pretty well and was pleased. Rink 1 always a trial. best way to meet and stay in touch with the club members is to play Fours.
Roll up down the Indoor for 1 hour. Got bored.......
Bob Avery and Myself played against Jan Lee (Swansea 16 Club NSW) and Leureen Ledden (Maroochy Beach QLD) "The Pinks* Later called "The Hot Shots"
A good day out for Bob and I (So I thought) What a Game. These ladies pushed us all the way and Bob and I struggled on a quick green early that slowed as the gentle drizzle fell. The game was close early but we pulled away to a nice 18-9 lead before I had this wonderful idea on the 10th end. Lets run at that bowl. Th Kitty flew to their waiting 7 bowls and we were so lucky that Leureen did not get an 8. She had perfect weight too but the kitty near the boundry line made it hard for her to get correct line and she was just wide. From then on at 18-16 it was end to end stuff. Even the 18th end at 24-19 I tried to relax but brilliant bowls from the girls got a 3 and we went to the last end 24-22. At one stage on the last end we were 3 down on the head. I tried to hide behind the score board before "Lord Bob" Drew a magnificent shot to save our bacon. I added another and we managed to scrape home with a 26-22 win. Never in Doubt!!!! Like hell. The girls certainly deserved their praise and we could have so easily have lost it. I Vow Not to play again at Southport until they go back to their towns. I dont think I could stand the pressure again. Give me Twisty any day. Great day. Well done. Today we played Broadbeach at Paradise Point on the quick 17 second top green. Steve Swans team had a brilliant win 29-12 against Gary Thomas & Geoff Lanhams side. Ray Hanson team fought hard against Paul Peterson and Sean Bakers side and went down 10-25. Our side, Peter Thompson, Orm Geiger, Myself and Troy Corba started well but the brilliance of driving from Chris McGibben, also his drawing ability had us down 2-16 after 7 ends. We fought back well once we had then on shorter ends and at 6-20 we got to 16-20, then dropped 1, 1, 1 and 2 to lose 16-25. We got to within 1 shot difference with 4 ends to go over all but could just not get the result. Great effort guys. The 2 points will certainly help our quest for a top 4 position but a hard game against Helensvale next week will be a good toughner for the final week game against Mckenzie Park which will be a Must Win for us. Hopefully we will be at Full strength for that one.
Brilliant day once again at Greenslopes for the Invitation All Day Pairs. Greens were running well and weather although overcast was good. Peter Thompson and I, our 1st games together and we went very well. 1st game against Mitchell Cameron and Ben Twist (Greenslopes). Pete and I played some great bowls and would have won most games but these two made some telling conversions and we went down 12-15 but had our chances. 2nd game against Matt Cowan and Lester Harvey (Toowoomba) another good game which we won well at 18-14. 3rd game against 2 game winners Jeff Twist and Jamie Smith, down 7-12, we won the last 5 ends to win 17-12 and once again played some great bowls to do so. Jeff led very well but Jamie just struggled with his Tight Almarks on the holding surface. Looking forward to the next one here.
John McLean and I played Reg Germon and Merv Austin and before we started I knew I had to have my mind switched on for this one. It was probably "The Best" game I have been involved in for sheer Quality of bowls from us all. It was tight all the way until I unluckily dropped a 4 on the 16th end and just gave them the edge they needed. At that stage we were 14-13 but that made it 14-17. Another 3 down and 14-20 on 18th end. I Failed to draw with a metre and dropped another on 19th. Holding 1 with 3 at the back, I drove with my last bowl and got kitty in the ditch for 3. We needed 4 on the last. Reg had a bowl on the kitty and I had 3 back bowls to trail to. I Hit the bowl and not the jack with my 2nd last and missed the last but got the shot so we lost 18-21. We won 12 or the 21 ends but dropped 2's and 3's and 1 x 4 which cost us dearly.
Its no wonder we are going so well at pennant, These two alone are so consistant. Great game, Good Company. Look forward to a rematch. If all games were this Quality it would make bowls so much more enjoyable. Its so easy to go out and treat the games as a roll up. I want hard competition every time I go out. Bob Barry and I had a tough game against Frank Davis (Melbourne) and Barry Lloyd. We ended up winning 27-11 but only 10 shots on the last 3 ends secured a win and 3rd place. Barry played some excellent bowls throughout the game on a windy and very tricky front green. Bob and I played well again especially for the conditions.
Bob Brown and I played Ron Kayll and Frank Walker ( Visitors from Mornington Peninsular) and they had borrowed bowls. We won 30-12 but just finished out of the placings after dropping last 2 ends. We played very well and Bob certainly gave the XV-1's a good work out and likes them.
No Bowls today although they have the Mixed Pairs at Tweed Heads but no one ever seems interested. Anyway look forward to tomorrow at Broadbeach with Bob Brown, weather permitting.
