Bob and I went to YAMBA for the Weekend Pairs. Arrived early afternoon and after checking into our Motel we went for a roll up for 2 hours. Greens Ultra fast but only in the last 2 weeks since the rains disappeared. Looking forward to a good 2 days competiton here.

What a difference playing on a quicker green. Top green as usual running very well. John McLean and I played Tony West and Bob Bailey again and another good quality game which we got up 21-16. John played pretty well dispite not liking is tight bowls very much. I was happy with most of my game again and looking forward to a good show at yamba this year.
Bob Barry and I had a good win on slow greens at Southport after flooded greens against John McLean and Keith Mackintosh 20-13. John certainly played with the wrong bowls today and Keith only came good 2nd half of the game. We let a good lead slip as should have won by heaps. Bob once again led very well and i played pretty good bowls.
Grant and I played here today to get Grant into form for a season in Australia after arriving back from the UK for 6 months. We went very well together again and won all 3 games and came joint 4th overall with Wayne Krones and Bob Avery on 3 wins plus 32 also. 1st game against Bill Melville and Ron Pritchard we played on nicely paced green for a 23-10 win over 19 ends. We started a little scratchy but progressed with some nice shots played. 2nd game against Max and Steve Piggott. We played very well for a 21-12 win although they came back well at us but we survived with once again good bowls. Steve certainly struggled on a slower 2nd green which we handled well. 3rd game we had to get a good margin and we played a team that were hammered in their 1st 2 games. As normally happens they relax and play out of their skins. We played Spud and Roth Neilsen. After 14 ends we were 10-10 and Grant had bowls close every end but somehow they kept nicking shots from us. We managed to rally and 2 5's got us home 22-12. A lovely day of bowls and weather and Grant is Certainly ready for up and coming season.
My New Car... Well maybe.. Still undecided.. I wanted Yellow but this became available. Its ok but will see what happens.. Apart from that I had a quiet day with Daughter up from Sydney and goes back tonight. Bowls tomorrow and cant wait. Weather to be good and Grant here from UK and should be in good form.
Bob Barry and I played Wendy and Clive Wall and had a 26-16 win. Could not get away from them although we should have as Wendy had trouble finding her line with her Size 1 Drakes and Clive had lots of work to do. Bob and I played pretty well too.
Bob and I played Kevin Watson and Alan Guley in a good game in very windy conditions. We lost 16-24 as Kevin led very well. Bob struggled with both sets of bowls. Good game though.
Phil Capon and I played Geoff O'Meagher and Bob Edward in the 1st game and a good hard game which we won on last end 11-10. Bob had new bowls, Powers and will take him a while to get used to them on the slow damp greens here. 2nd game against Tony Regan and Noel Ridgewell. We started well and were up 5-1 before dropping a 7 in difficult windy and slow conditions. Ended up a good game but we lost 11-18. Wish this rain would Sod Off and get quicker greens.
John Mclean and I played Bruce Prentice and Sam Granata today for a 26-16 win. We hit them hard early and were up 23-5 but dropped 11 in 5 ends before consolidating for our win. We played pretty good bowls on a tricky 15 second green.
Bob Barry and I played Hughie Brace and Tony Shaw. Had a good win 31-10 and 2nd money. Both played ok on pretty good running green after all the wet weather.
