We avoided our local players.. Was a very tricky day with good running green but shifty wind made it very hard to get the same line and weight. Our 1st game against Mark Lister (Mudgeeraba) and Dave Cooke (Burleigh Heads). Grant and I played excellent bowls for our 21-8 Win. Once we had them on long ends we took over after a slowish start. 2nd game against Mark and Muttley (Hamilton). They had just beaten Ian Hughes and Brian Lamb in their 1st game. We had a great win 23-6 and played very well again. 3rd game and "The Big Test". Against Ricky V and Sean Baker. Sean has just gone down to Lambys team in the 2nd game. Grant and I started slowish and were 0-4 down after 3 ends and signs looked ominous. We picked up a 5 and from then on picked our game up and got 3 Fives during the game and led 16-8. I am never comfortable against Sean as his brillliance shines when he has to and he found a gap to get a 2 from nothing and started the pressure comeback. They won 6 from 7 ends and we managed to keep them to low scores. Up 16-15 with 2 ends to go, things went wrong and found ourselves 5 down on the head with my last bowl. I had not found the line on the windy hand with my other 3 and just tried to relax and get it cut down. I found a great shot that I am sure Sean would have been proud of when i dead drew shot and gave us a 17-15 lead with 1 end to go. Grant put 2 very close on the last end but Sean drove and the kitty ended in the ditch. We all had about 10 metres to draw but T to T with slowing afternoon green and shifty winds saw us all fall short. I managed with my last bowl to get shot and thankfully Seans miracle drive never came off and we ended up winning 18-15. Its nice to beat Sean as usually he gets the better of us and so he should. Its hard to run and tournament and play in it and his mind would not have been focused after losing his 2nd game anyway but we still had to win and I know he tried hard but we had the luck on the day. Grant played very well as usual and looking forward to more comps this year together.
