Next week I am sure on better paced greens we will perform to our ability. In future, if we take these competitions serioulsly, we should play at these grounds the day before as we know they are slow and would prepare us for the challenge. I played on the other 2 greens yesterday and they were quicker than the Number 1 green we played on today.
Our Division 1 squad were up at Helensvale today for Round 8 of the Pennant. Always going to be hard for us with so many quality players here but we were always looking for 1 rink win at least. It was not to be. Our Rink, Blair Garden, Orm Geiger, Myself and Troy Corba played Brett Wilkie, Sooty Rice, Stuart Bainbridge and Nathan Rice. We never even had a roll up which was a mistake but would have made no difference anyway I am sure of that. We went down 6-29. Apart from Blair, Who played very well and I reckon just about matched Brett Wilkie at Lead, We were all guilty of being far too short on a green no better than 10 seconds. Steve Swans side were hanging in against Anthony Keipe team but eventually went down by 20 or so. Ray Glasser who came back from holidays at 8am and came straight to the game using someone elses bowls had the best opportunity and was leading 7-10 half way through but Darren Mullens team over took and won by about 7 shots or so. I never saw finals scores only I know our rink result was correct. All credit to Helensvale as they never took the pressure off for 1 minute. Always looking for that extra shot. Enthusiastic as well.
